Kruppel-like factor 4 (Klf4) is a zinc-finger transcription factor. It is one of 26 members of the specificity protein/Kruppel-like factor (Sp/Klf) family of ZnF transcription factors and is one of the four Yamanaka reprogramming factors. It is also involved in the regulation of proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis of cells. Klf4 can recognize methylated or unmodified CpG dinucleotide within a specific G/C-rich sequence. The ZnF DNA-binding domains and other relevant residues, which are involved in the process of Klf4 recognition of methylated DNA, have been annotated in the figure above.
