Sunset Arch dramatically emerges from the desert sands south of Escalante, Utah, formed from Navajo sandstone that has been strengthened and stained dark by iron and manganese oxides. A popular subject for photographers, Sunset Arch is one of several significant spans in the area, which was formerly protected as part of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (BLM).
