Origin: England Producer: Thomas & Williams Date: 1890 Height: 23 cm Diameter: 8,4 cm The Davy Lamp was invented already in 1815 by Sir Humphry Davy, as a solution for the many mine gas explosions in the British mines. He found that a little basket made from copper mesh around the fire could absorb the warmth and prevent explosions. Also, the lamp provided a test for the presence of gases. If flammable gas mixtures were present, the flame of the Davy lamp burned higher with a blue tinge. Furthermore, the lamp exists from a pot with some oil in it to feed the wick. A huge disadvantage of the lamp, was that it did not light very properly. Creator: Ruqin Hu
