The stone 'pillow' in the side compartment of the Dwafie Stone has attracted a considerable amount of graffiti over the years. The earliest is 'H Ross' dated 1735. One notable engraving is that of Hugh Miller, the famous geologist, who visited in 1846. This monument is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument and it is illegal to deface it in any way.
