Emphasizing the improper separation between the aorta and pulmonary trunk. Neural crest cells did not normally rotate 180 degrees when developing the membranous portion of the interventricular septum. The improper division causes the pulmonary trunk to drain from the left ventricle and the aorta from the right ventricle.
