Laguna Quilotoa (Ecuador)

Description

Laguna Quilotoa (Quilotoa Lake) is located at 14 km of the village Zimbahua (Ecuadorian Andes). It is a volcanic-crater lake at an elevation of 3900m a.s.l. The 3km-wide caldera (remnant of a dacitic stratovolcano) formed due to the colapse of the volcano after a catastrophic eruption (VEI 6) approx. 600 years ago.
