This porcelain sink is one of the permanent collections at Nederlands Mijnmuseum, which used to be part of the bathroom on the ground of a mine. Miners usually covered in coal dust and mud at the end of the shift. Going to the bathroom to have a shower before going back home is the last thing they do before finishing the day. The bathroom was not only a place where mines got respectably clean before leaving work, it was also a place where they get social. Miners told tales and played pranks on one another to lighten the hard working day. Photo taken at a bathroom of a coal mine in the Netherlands, on September 5, 1952.
