Joseph Labor memorial in Vienna. The stone bust on a pedestal from 1928 was made by Fritz Hänlein. Josef Labor (1842-1924) was an Austrian composer, organist and pianist. At the age of 3 he fell ill with smallpox and went blind as a result. He received his schooling at the Institute for the Blind in Vienna, and his musical education took place at the Music Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde. His piano playing has been praised by contemporary critics for its not only technical perfection and "plastic beauty", but also his comprehensive understanding of art.
