Lidar vs Photogrammetry continued. The current implementation of Lidar on mobile devices is very low resolution. This means that when you're trying to scan small objects it's hard to scan them using Lidar. You can see it here in this model where the tires look great but all the small details of the tractor have been lost. Photogrammetry does a much better job of this today as long as you take enough photos. I do believe though that the issues in low resolution in hardware can be fixed in software so I look forward to seeing what all the scanner apps do in the future 😊I would love the ability to do scans at different levels of detail even manually determined by me Created with Polycam.ai
