Alligator Palatine

Description

The bony walls of the palatine encase the nasal cavity and airway. The bone is quite thin hence its porous look in the model. The lateral edge of the palatine forms the medial margin of the palatal fenestra. The pterygoid process of the palatine sutures with the palatal process of the pterygoid. The maxillary process sutures with the maxilla while also transmitting a portion of the airway and paranasal air sinuses. The palatine sutures to its fellow member at the midline, forming part of the secondary bony palate.
