Gurthang once known as Anglachel was forged by the dark elf Eol in the First Age, and wielded by the hero Turin Turambar to slay the dragon Glaurung the Golden in 501 of the First Age, earning him the title of Turin Turambar Dagnir Glaurunga, meaning Turin Turambar Slayer of Glaurung.
