Lamb Physical specimen held by the Moore Laboratory of Zoology, Occidental College, Los Angeles, CA Double-striped Thick-knees are a primarily nocturnal shorebird. Active at night, they are often heard giving loud cries and occasionally spotted by their large, reflective eyes. Like other Thick-knees, their "knee" (technically their ankle) is slightly thicker than the rest of their leg.
