This artifact is a harness buckle, possibly for a horse. This was found with other artifacts at the McClure farmstead. The site is located in Miller Grove, a freed African-American community located in the Shawnee National Forest. The excavations were performed by an SIUC Field School in 2019. The Director of the Center for Archaeological Investigations, Dr. Mark J. Wagner, lead the field school.
