The model was reconstructed from fragments captured in the field using laser scanning. Northern Colossus Of Memnon Once completed, our model of the colossus enabled us to verify the precise fit for many of the smaller fragments belonging to the main pieces of the monument. The model also enabled us to get a precise estimate of the height and weight of the statue, by extrapolation from the Memnon colossus dimensions (also posted by INSIGHT on SketchFab). And, as our model was based entirely on accurate spatial data, we were able to make the surprising claim that the colossus of Ramesses II was the largest such preserved colossus to come out of an ancient Egyptian quarry. It also clearly showed morphological differences between the Memnon colossi and that of the statue of Ramesses II, which had a thicker build and very different proportions.
