illajos Sanctuary Fountain (Campo de Criptana, Spain) Fountain preserved in the Santuario del Santísimo Cristo de Villajos (Campo de Criptana, Spain). It is a beautiful fountain sculpted in stone and richly decorated. At the bottom its possible to read the year of construction "1719" along with the IHS monogram. IHS is a monogram of the name of Jesus Christ, that is, a cristogram. Although this monogram became popular in the Middle Ages, it was also very popular in eighteenth-century in Spain. The central area of the fountain is decorated with a shell. The upper area of the fountain is presided over by a Cross of the Order of Santiago, as this sanctuary is within the domains of this Order.
