3D scan of a fossilized primitive bird, the extinct *Confuciusornis sanctus* dated 125 million years ago and found in the Liaoning province, China. The lagerstätte in China is an El Dorado for paleontologists and evolutionary biologists: more than 1000 specimens of *Confuciusornis* were found there. These findings provide valuable information on the evolution of birds. *Confuciusornis sanctus* is Number 21 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 8 of the NHM Vienna. **Specimen**: *Confuciusornis sanctus* (Hou et al. 1995) **Inventory number**: NHMW-Geo 1997z0112/0001 **Collection**: NHM Vienna, Geology & Paleontology Dept., Vertebrate Coll.
