Hydraulic Capstan

Description

Located on the south side (Greenland Quay) of Greenland Dock, Rotherhithe, London. "Large ships were helped in and out of the Greenland Lock using hawsers hauled in by these capstasn .... An igenious mechanism used the power of high pressure water to turn it.” This capstan has been elevated so the mechanism underneath can be seen. 263 photos taken in November 2020 with a Sony a6000 and processed in Reality Capture.
