Relief sculpture fragment depicting royal attendant's head. Neo-Assyrian, Ashurnasirpal II, 883-859 BC. From Room C, the North-West Palace, Nimrud. Head of a male with long hair curled at his shoulders and wearing an ankh-shaped earring. Faces left; top border of robe incised with hatched decoration. Cut from a large slab of gypsum. From other reliefs, it has been suggested that parts of this image would originally have been painted. Object still in display mount - hence loss of image on bottom.
