As it takes place in an Asian inspired setting, I wanted to emphasize Asian motifs for the weapon. The base is done off an Indian talwar with swordsmithing elements from Japan such as the hamon and the tsuba and a wheel with eight spokes was used for the tsuba design to utilize Buddhist imagery. But the overall blade and sheath shape is more reminiscent of a South African shotel to evoke a more alien and unique appearance that stands out from other weapons of the region."
