The item presented here is a charcoal iron with a chimney. It was used in households for ironing thick fabrics and leather. It was made in one piece as a cast iron casting. It consists of a massive body in the form of a box, which was heated with coal. Inside was a something that resembled a soot pit with a grid, ending in a draft hole at the back of the body. The hole, closed with a damper, allowed the burning of the coal and the temperature of the iron to be adjusted. The second part of the device is a cast-iron lid with a chimney angled to the right, which was suspended on hinges and opened upwards. The chimney protected right-handed users from the fumes that came from the glowing coal in the iron. Irons with a chimney angled to the left were produced far less often.
