Starfish Scan

Description

Scan of a dried starfish that I found, probably bought as a souvenire. Scaned using 64 focus stacked images, around 50 focus steps per image. I have tried several auto-retopo options that did produce a nice result, but had terrible edge flow, making it very hard to cleanly unwrap this thing. I ended up doing fully manual retopo in 3ds max, using classical HSM techniques. It took ages, due to complexity of the model, but it was a good practice piece for sure. 8K difuse, normal and AO
