Haemoglobin of Woolly Mammoth is made up of 4 subunits. The alpha haemoglobin subunits are represented by 2 cream coloured ribbons and the beta subunits with 2 lavender ribbons. The heme stick-and-ball model is visible with the carbons coloured grey. The iron atom is coloured orange. The nitrogen and oxygen atoms are coloured blue and red respectively. The model was built using ChimeraX from X-ray diffraction crystal structure data in the Protein Data Bank (PDB ID 3VRE). https://www.rcsb.org/structure/3VRE & https://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimerax/ ‘Structures of haemoglobin from woolly mammoth in liganded and unliganded states.’ H Noguchi et al.
