At Mt. Pleasant Cemetery is this beautiful grave monument for 9 year old Mary Braley, who died in 1905. It is especially touching as the monument shows things that relate to a child, such as the small straw hat, the little boots with socks coming out and a symbol of life cut short with the tree stump and the ivy growing in memory around it. I admire how her parents celebrated her memory with this beautiful memorial to her. As I photographed the monument, my assumption that it was some type of a stone cast became wrong as I could see the tool marks in protected spots. This was all hand carved. Wow.
