Grapple Plant seed pod

Accession 1985.358 This seed pod has a hidden story. Its narrative is embedded in a capsule body. A geological deep time of stored memory, intelligence and an enduring will to survive. 'A Horror of Natural History' as recorded on a box containing this seed pod at the World Museum Herbarium collection in Liverpool. Declared a pest in Western Australia also known as the grapple plant/devils claws, the seed pods hook onto animals and hitch long distances. As the animal fails to unhook the sharp pointed claws it will eventually die, leaving the seeds inside the pod to grow from the nourishment of the decomposing animal.
