The spiny dogfish is a squaliform shark common to Atlantic waters. Its a small, social species that feeds on fishes, invertebrates and other aquatic animals. The species is used frequently in comparative anatomy classes to teach students fundementals in musculoskeletal organization. Built in part by University of Missouri undergrad London Bales for their honors theseis, this model employs 3D muscle architecture derived from using machine learning and automation tools applied to iodine contrasted microCT data of a dogfish cadaver. The specimen was collected from a fisherman's bycatch in Melbourne Beach, FL during a holiday.
