Gravestone within Pencaitland Parish Kirkyard, East Lothian, Scotland The carving includes a crown and hammer. The crown and hammer signifies the guild of hammermen. From the 15th Century the Incorporation of Hammermen has supported trade and commerce for metalworkers and assoociated trades. These trades included goldsmiths, blacksmiths and locksmiths, armourers, cutlers and clockmakers. The crown and hammer motif is still used by the Incorporation of Hammermen today.
