O: Gastropoda Snail shells have microscopic bumps that pool water. These pools collect oily substances on their surface which are washed away when the snail enters water or is rained on. LIXIL Corporation of Japan developed a silica based coating that can be applied to the exterior of buildings to mimic the bumps of a snail’s shell.
