This model showcases the complex rupture of the Flores Thrust beneath Lombok, Indonesia in 2018. A magnitude 6.4 foreshock was followed by two magnitude 6.9 mainshocks, which ruptured a ~20° dipping fault plane extending beneath Gunung Rinjani volcano. Analysis of relocated seismicity observed by a rapidly deployed seismic array shows that the heat from volcano system has strongly affected the fault. This 'thermal squeezing' of the seismogenic zone set the stage for the complex rupture sequence that occurred in 2018.
