This adze is a woodworking tool made from the whorl of a queen conch (Strombus gigas) shell imported from the coast. It was recovered from the Shell Island site in Orange County, Florida and likely dates to the Middle-Late Archaic period (ca. 7400-3500 CE). It is curated at the Rollins College Archaeology Lab. Model by Ellie Minette.
