Crossbow Bolt (specimen #096-725). The Berry Site (31BK22). Burke County, North Carolina. Excavated in the fall of 2017 by 6th graders from Carolina Day School participating in a visit to the site sponsored by the Exploring Joara Foundation. Unit: N804E200, level: Plowzone 1. Weight: 16.5 g. Material: Iron Remarks: This iron artifact is a crossbow bolt that was left behind by a member of Juan Pardo’s troops. It was found inside the area of Fort San Juan and is the first crossbow bolt found at the Berry site. Several crossbow bolt have been recovered at the contemporary Santa Elena site at Parris Island, SC, inside Fort San Felipe.
