Abernyte Flesher Stone

Description

This fantastic memorial is situated in the cemetery of Abernyte churchyard which looks over the Carse of Gowrie. The memorial is erected by Patrick Lowson for his father and mother. Flesher is an old word meaning a butcher. As can be seen in the scene depicted, the steer is being held by the throat by a dog with the butcher posed above it ready to strike a blow.
