Obelisk to James Maitland Balfour at Whittinghame to the south of Traprain Law, East Lothian 'Erected to the memory of James Maitland Balfour esq of Whittinghame. Major Commandant of the East Lothian Yeomanary Cavalry by the officers and non-commissioned officers and privates of that Corps in testament of their great esteem for him as a commanding officer, of their affectionate regard for him as an able country gentleman, and of their deep and lasting regret for his premature removal from among them.
