Ancla/anchor Old Pattern Admiralty Long Shanked

Este tipo de ancla lo usaron las marinas británica y estadounidense desde finales del siglo XVIII y el siglo XIX (Smith & Nutley 2000). Inicialmente tenían un cepo cuadrangular de madera y un anillo en el extremo de la caña, que fueron sustituidos por un cepo tubular de metal y un grillete, a finales de la década de 1830. Es probable que el USS *Somers* (1846) haya estado equipado con dos anclas de este tipo. Este modelo está basado en una ilustración de Costell (1856, *Treatise on Ship’s Anchors*) publicada en un artículo de Smith y Nutley (2000). This type of anchor was used by the British and US navies during the late 18th and 19th centuries (Smith & Nutley 2000). The wooden stock and the ring at the end of the shank were replaced, respectively, by a metal stock and a shackle by the late 1830s. It is likely that the USS *Somers* (1846) carried two of these anchors.
