As a result, there was no standardized crest that could be used. This changed in 1966. Shortly after Philip Liau became Principal of RI, he called upon art teacher, Wong Sheuan Shee, and Raffles Art Club President, Lee Suan Hiang, and tasked them with bringing the crest ‘back to its origins: The crest was designed near the end of 1966 with inputs from Liau,himself a former art teacher. The main addition to the crest were the stylized ivy leaves – representing strong and lasting friendship – around the shield. It is this crest that remains in use today.
