Pallet collar raised bed - cross section

Raised garden bed, with a standard Euro Pallet (120cm x 80cm) and two pallet collars. HOW TO BUILD A RAISED BED 1. Pallet. Use only pallets with good quality, and made of solid tree (some pallets have parts made of chipboard). 2. Pallet collars. Paint with linseed oil to improve the shelf life. 3. Lining. Protects collars (wood) from moisture, keeps the soil in the box and holds the whole construction together. Use strong plastic or pond liner. Remember drain holes! 4. Drainage layer. May be omitted, but remember to make sure that drain holes will not get blocked! 5. Soil. Use gardening soil (not potting soil or peat moss). Mix possibly with compost, and sand if it's clayey.
