The type-2 phaser consisted of a pistol-shaped base which contained additional power cells and controls. The small type 1 phaser snapped into the top of the unit. The type 2 phaser was normally carried on an equipment belt. It was not usually issued on diplomatic or sensitive missions. The pistol grip and simple controls made it an effective weapon that could be adjusted and fired on short notice. I'm doing this for a class. Figured I'd go the extra mile with a bit of lore or whatever.
