Dieter Rams' HDL4 Hairdryer is a singular sample of bold colour use in Braun's portfolio that came to reveal the playful side of Functionalism. It came in vivid tones straight out of the Pop Art colour scheme and adopted a streamlined look, contrasting with the standardised Design of its contemporaries. The HLD4 might be now, 50 years later, technologically obsolete, but the timelessness of Dieter Rams’ legacy is beyond question.
