A segment of the Niagara Escarpment at the North Channel - where the Georgian Bay meets Lake Huron. Note how Manitoulin Island and the Bruce Peninsula have a similarly sloped surface that dips down towards Lake Huron, while the Georgian Bay side stands proud. This morphology reflects the layers of tilted Paleozoic sedimentary strata that were carved into a scalloped form on the Georgian Bay side by Pleistocene ice.
