Some miners had a difficult time while not being able to smoke cigarettes during their work or break. Safety rules are strictly against smoking in the mines due to potential danger of explosion. As a result, snuff or chewing types of tobacco became a popular replacement for cigarettes. Stylish, small, and usually made of iron boxes were perfect to fit into a pocket and to be carried around during the work. This particular type of tobacco boxes was popular at the end of the 19th century. Size: 2,5" x 10" x 4".
