* Period/Epoch: Paleogene / Eocene * Rock Formation: Willwood Fm. * State, County: WY, Washakie * This specimen was found on Federal Land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Taxonomy: Mammalia>Perissodactyla>Equidae>Hyracotherium angustidens Hyracotherium angustidens was an extinct genus of perissodactyl, or odd-toed ungulates, from the Eocene epoch. Originally classified as a stem-horse by Richard Owen in 1839, it is now believed to be an early relative of both horses and brontotheres. Hyracotherium angustidens would have been the size of a small dog and would have foraged for leaves and fruit in a jungle environment. This is one half of the dentary. Scanned with the David SLS-2
