A megalodon tooth is associated with an extinct genus of mackerel shark (Otodus obliquus) which is part of the Natural History Society of Maryland’s fossil collection. The tooth is from the Paleocene Period and likely dates to approximately 60 million years ago. The identifying characteristic of this tooth are the large pronounced cusps flanking the tooth and the tooth is not serrated.
