Flamingoes, or Phoenicopteridae sp., are a type of shore bird, also known as wading birds, that live in large colonies together. Flamingoes are most notable for standing on one leg with the other tucked into its body, but scientists do not yet fully understand this behavior. ?Their vibrant, pink and red tones are due to the aqueous bacteria and beta-carotene that they receive from their diet. The most striking characteristic of a flamingo’s skull is their bill. Due to their omnivorous diet consisting largely of brine shrimp, insects, mollusks, crustaceans and blue-green algae, their bills are well-adapted to filter-feed.
