A squat toilet (or squatting toilet) is a toilet used by squatting, rather than sitting and are common in many Asian and African countries. In many of those countries, anal cleansing with water is also the cultural norm and easier to perform than with toilets used in a sitting position. Does the type of toilet we use change the illicit use such as cottaging? Are the signals such as foot signals the same globally are these acts limited or only documented in western culture? How does the design of the bathroom stall change how we use it. Does a stall with opening underneath the divider help with better signaling or does a complete enclosed stall allow for more privacy for illicit acts? Does the tile finishes etc. have an influence in how a space is used? cottage *verb (informal) * perform homosexual acts in a public toilet.
