This shell comes from the family Mitridae which makes up a group of sea snails commonly known as mitres. These sea snails can be found in warm and temperate seas around the world with the greatest concentration in the tropical Indian and Pacific Oceans. The name of this shell refers to the ecclesiastical headgear known as the mitre/miter due to similarities in shape.
