Hairy Woodpecker

Description

Leuconotopicus villosus Hairy woodpeckers have a bit of a larger bill than other types and use them to drill holes into both live and dead trees to feed on soft-bodied bugs. They live in the mountains of North America and tend to interact with other species, including downy woodpeckers. They also seem to like sweet substances, as they have been seen drinking sap from wells or drilling into sugar cane to lap up the juice. Accession number: 140.13
