Wheel, 1988. Concrete, steel and glass 8' foot diameter The artist, a graduate of Syracuse University's School of Art and Design, won a competition to create a sculpture honoring Dr. William R. Frederickson, Chairman of the Physics Department (1939 - 1965). Wheel has a surface that is articulated with shapes reminiscent of simple tools. The forms are carefully balanced to suggest equilibrium. The imposing circular sculpture echoes the roof of Hendricks Chapel and the proprotions of its pats to the whole are very classical in scale.
