Fully grooved axe from Long Island, NY. Weight: 445.9 g. Max thickness: 32.3 mm. Material: banded slate. Fully grooved axes are associated with the Middle Archaic period (6500 to 3500 BCE). Axes, over the course of thousands of years, changed from fully grooved, 3/4 grooved, to no groove (known as celts). Donated by the Mantua Township Historical Society. This model has open holes on one end due to the photogrammetry process. If we are able to take additional photos and merge the remaining photographs into a water-tight model, we will re-upload. But for now, that is why there are large holes in the model. These represent where the artifact was resting on a stand.
