Nails in a barrel at the Azumabashi factory of Dainippon Breweries, Ltd. turned into a large molten mass due to the high heat from the fierce fires caused by the earthquake. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Reconstruction Memorial Hall was built in 1931 as an auxiliary facility to the Earthquake Memorial Hall (now the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Memorial Hall) in order to pass on the devastation of the Great Kanto Earthquake to future generations and to permanently commemorate the great work that was done by the public and private sectors to reconstruct Tokyo from the ashes of the disaster.
