A megalodon tooth from a Carcharodon angustidens, a large species of extinct shark, which is part of the Natural History Society of Maryland’s fossil collection. This shark lived during the Oligocene and Miocene Periods and likely dates from approximately 33 to 22 million years ago. The prominent diagnostic characteristic of this tooth is the small serrated cusps flanking the tooth. Courtesy of the Natural History Society of Maryland which has given permission for the model to be downloadable for non-commercial educational purposes.
