I started with a box model and added loops and edges where needed to shape out my model. After I had basic features of the model created I started to subdivide the model more and pulled around areas with soft selection. Finally, I used Maya's sclupting tools to create more fine tuned details. Although this is a pretty low detail model, it is able to get the point of what an organic model is. The difference between hard surface and organic modeling is that you must use a higher poly count to create more smooth and organic shapes for organic models.
